My Favorite Flannel Shirts For Fall and Winter

Fall is finally here, which means it’s time for flannel shirts.
My favorite are from The Flat Head, the Japanese company known for their take on all things Americana. The Flat Head makes their shirts with cotton selvedge flannel woven from shuttle looms and assembles them using felled seam construction and chain stitching - techniques normally used with denim. This makes their shirts more durable than most designer shirts. They also brush the inside lining, which makes it soft and comfortable.

I own two Flat Head Flannels: the HN-52W work shirt in red and the HNW-52W western shirt in yellow. I’m not ashamed to admit that the reason why I bought the western shirt is because it reminds me of a shirt I use to have as a kid.

Both shirts are easy to wear. They go perfect with jeans and pair with either sneakers or boots.
When the weather is warmer, they can be worn as a shirt jacket and look great over a henley. This is the type of outfit that I wear on a weekend stroll through the farmer's market or to the bar to meet some friends.

As it gets colder, all you have to do is button up your shirt and wear some heavy outerwear. I like to wear mine under waxed jackets like my Belstaff Roadmaster.
Quality comes with a price though, and for these shirts that price is $290 plus tax. Thankfully, they are easy to come by on sites like eBay or Grailed where you can save some money buying them second-hand.
If I had to tell the truth, I would rather own two Flat Head Flannels over an entire closet worth of other clothes. That’s how amazing they are. It took my three years of patiently waiting and checking second-hand sites to buy both of my shirts at a price I could afford. If you aren’t interested in waiting and are fortunate enough to pay full price without crying, they’re readily available at stores such as Self Edge and Rivet and Hide.
